about
I wrote this a few weeks after my parents visited me in Bloomington. It left me feeling like my gender was more of a facade that I was putting on for fun, rather than a valid identity. This song helped me process those thoughts and feelings from their visit, and also serves as a reminder to myself that my gender is valid, regardless of my appearance or the judgement of others.
lyrics
---
I don't like my parents, does that make me kind of sick
I hope they don't hear this, and that makes me kind of sick
Cause I know it's not what you want to hear
Hey, I'm not your son, quit calling me a fucking man
But I don't think you care, think you care, think you - oh -
Oh, you think you care
About me, well you're doing it the wrong way
They shouldn't make me feel this way
They shouldn't make me feel this way
My friends don't make me feel this way
They don't make me feel this way
So why do you, get to make me feel this way
Why do you make me feel this way
I wouldn't even let my friends make me feel this way
I know that you think that I've gotta figure it out
But there's so much figuring out that you need to do
You need to do
I'm not a girl, but I'm not a man
And you don't have to understand
